At Sandfields Comprehensive School we expect "Excellence and more". This means that we have High Standards and High Expectations. Since September 1997 the school has embarked on a drive to raise standards of pupil achievement. Since then results have risen to this year's impressive all time high, and in our recent Estyn report we were graded as excellent in all catagories. Sandfields Comprehensive School is now considered by many to be one of the best schools in Wales.

Sandfields Comprehensive is an eleven to sixteen mixed county maintained secondary school of some 650 pupils. Pupils are drawn from the surrounding area of Sandfields Port Talbot. The school is a purpose built Comprehensive of 51 years of age, consisting of two main buildings on the same site, surrounded by extensive grounds and adjacent to its own playing fields. The school has an enhanced learning unit on site that caters for pupils with hearing and profound multiple learning difficulties. The unit enriches the school community and there is positive interaction between main stream and unit pupils.
The school prides itself on its school improvement profile. G.C.S.E. results have risen from 29% A* to C in 1996 to an all time high of 64%. A* to G continue to be above national norms. This must be placed in the context of a school that has over 45% free school meals. Sandfields has won many WSSA awards for school improvement, including most improved school in Wales. It has the basic skills award and investors in people status. The school has a reputation for the quality of its productions, with Drama and performing arts being discrete subjects at both key stages. The school is committed to high standards and securing ambitious targets for school improvement.
